Daniel Hernandez, known professionally as 6ix9ine (pronounced “six-nine”) or Tekashi69 is an American rapper. He adopts a very aggressive style of rapping and has a very controversial personality as he is covered in various tattoos and has rainbow-colored hair. He rose to fame in 2017 after releasing his first single, “Gummo” which peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Tekashi is currently in prison as he was arrested in 2018 on account of racketeering, weapon, and drug charges, for which he received a two-year prison sentence in 2019. Tekashi’s body is covered in many weird tattoos that represent his persona. Let us take a look at them and the meanings they hold.
1. 69 Tattoos
Tattoo: The rapper’s chest, his stomach both contain the number 69 tattooed on them. The right side of his forehead and most of his upper left arm contains the number 69 tattooed on it in a pattern. His throat also contains the number tattooed on it along with wings on either side of it. Both his forearms are also covered in a tattoo of a pattern of the number 69. His right forearm also contains a few dollar signs in between. Both of his hands are also covered in tattoos of the number, 69. His knuckles contain tiny xs tattooed on them and his fingers contain the numbers 6 and 9 tattooed on alternate fingers. His forehead, the area above his left eyebrow, and the area below his left eye, all contain the word, “Six Nine” tattooed on it to represent 69. All the tattoos make up the number, 69.
Meaning: Besides representing his stage name, the tattoo is also a representation of perception of the same thing or number from two different sides and serves as a purpose to teach people to take other people’s choices into account. When asked about the tattoo, Tekashi explained by saying,
live life with an open mind and an open heart and understand the person you talk to”
2. Spiderweb Tattoo
Tattoo: Both the sides of his face, on his jaw contain a tattoo of spiderwebs
3. Scum Tattoo
Tattoo: The upper side of his left forearm contains a tattoo of the word, “SCUM” encased between the numbers 6 and 9.
Meaning: Scum refers to the crew that Tekashi used to run with. The name of the crew was Scum Gang that stood for, “Society Can’t Understand Me” and is a tribute to all the kids that go through the trouble and live day by day just trying to get by.
4. Oscar and Character Tattoos
Tattoo: The right side of his face contains the name, “OSCAR” tattooed on it vertically along his hairline. There is also a tattoo of the face of the character from the Saw movies. Even the character has the number 69 inked on his forehead in red.
Meaning: Oscar is the name of his elder brother. He got this tattoo to show his love to his brother who raised him after their father died when he was 13 years old. The character is known as Billy the Puppet and Tekashi got it tattooed on his face as he likes the character.
5. Flower Tattoo
Tattoo: The left side of his forehead contains a tattoo of a rose flower with its vine coming down towards the left side of his face and ending near his ear.
Meaning: Tekashi got this tattoo to show his love for the fellow rapper, “XXXTentacion” right after he died in the summer of 2018.
6. Purple Rose Tattoo
Meaning: Purple rose tattoo signifies true love, mystery, royalty, and love at first sight.
7. Multi-Colored Flowers Tattoo
Tattoo: ‘Multi-Colored Flowers’ tattoo on his shoulders.
Meaning: On October 20, 2020, he got this tattoo inked by Rotten Apple Art Alley.
